Comment: A poem that plays on the semantics of
the term 'enlightenment' (line 3). Tealights or nightlights are candles encased
in a metal (or plastic) cup, serving as food warmers or fragrance diffusers. In
the second ku, while the monks (sÅ å§) are gathering these small candles –may be
scattered on the ground or on a shelf– the poet glimpses a parallelism with
their search for Enlightenment (satori æã). The double hyphen (--) serving as a cutting
mark actually seems to represent the intermittent and flickering light of a
candle.
