One Man's Maple Moon: Journey Tanka by Pravat Kumar Padhy

English Original

wave after wave
on an incessant journey
another sunset
when I long to change the taste
of salt, the colour of the wind

Skylark, 2:2, Winter 2014

Pravat Kumar Padhy

Chinese Translation (Traditional)

一波又一波
在一個不間斷的旅程中
當我渴望改變
鹽的口味,風的顏色時
另一個日落的到來

Chinese Translation (Simplified)

一波又一波
在一个不间断的旅程中
当我渴望改
盐的口味,风的颜色时
另一个日落的到来

Comment:

There is no excitement, joy, or new discovery in the speaker's "incessant journey," just one after "another (same old) sunset" when the speaker "long[s] to change the taste/of salt, the colour of the wind."

A fresh tanka about an incessant journey of sameness.

Today's poetic food for thought on journey:

Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.

Matsuo Basho, "Narrow Road to the Interior."
