so deep

the ocean of love…

in quietness

a prose paragraph

I recite like a lyrical poem

holding the moon,

I translate my verse in dream

saucer magnolia — 
the safe landing 
of a flying fox 

Comment: The large flowers of the saucer magnolia, scattered all over the tree’s branches, are reminiscent of the way a flying fox colony looks, with multiple bats hanging from each branch. Here the flying fox may have landed to look for nectar.

Comment: A poem that plays on the semantics of the term 'enlightenment' (line 3). Tealights or nightlights are candles encased in a metal (or plastic) cup, serving as food warmers or fragrance diffusers. In the second ku, while the monks (sō 僧) are gathering these small candles –may be scattered on the ground or on a shelf– the poet glimpses a parallelism with their search for Enlightenment (satori 悟り). The double hyphen (--) serving as a cutting mark actually seems to represent the intermittent and flickering light of a candle.
