Typewriter

It sits, preserved, on the wooden table. The keyboard still carries his thick fingerprints, the letters partially eroded, smeared with carbon… They remind him of the flow of poetry over four decades—black letters on white paper, rhythm and meter mixing with the music of the keys. When the bell rang, he would guide the carriage return lever and feel a deep quietude.

Time has been fast-changing, but the carbon copies still linger in his mind, each containing the imprint of his soul.
