A cloudless sky cooks cracked concrete where neighborhood girls skip Double Dutch. Gray buildings abut gray parking lots, treeless until a patch of park reclaimed by residents. A respite from honking horns and city smog.

Note: Braided Haiku is a new poetic form framed as two stand-alone three-line haiku: one in italics and the other in plain text, composed from a 4-line micropoem consisting of two monoku: one at the top and one at the bottom, with a two-liner in between. Braided Haiku-Prose is a hybrid form combining prose with braided haiku. Pravat Kumar Padhy introduces the new form. The original essay “Braided Haiku: Shaping Meandering Thoughts“ can be found online: Frogpond, 47:2 Spring/Summer 2024.
